The woman, who witnesses say appeared to be in shock, took off on foot after the accident, returning shortly to speak with police who noticed signs of impairment.

The driver was read a roadside demand for breath samples but then failed to blow an adequate sample on the breathalyzer. She was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and possessing open liquor in a motor vehicle.

The woman was taken to hospital for minor injuries.
