CHICAGO – Corey Crawford made 31 saves to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night in a matchup of Central Division rivals missing their top centres.
Jimmy Hayes scored the tying goal in the second period and set up Marcus Kruger’s winning score in the third as Chicago earned its fourth consecutive victory since a nine-game losing streak.
Valtteri Filppula scored a power-play goal for NHL-leading Detroit, which had won six in a row. Jimmy Howard had 27 stops in his first action since being sidelined for two-plus weeks with a broken right index finger.
While Howard was back in the net for the first time since Feb. 2 at Vancouver, the Red Wings were without leading scorer Pavel Datsyuk.
Chicago was missing its star centre, Jonathan Toews, who was scratched with an upper-body injury.
OILERS 6, FLAMES 1
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) – Sam Gagner scored a goal and added two assists, and Edmonton broke out with four unanswered goals in the second period in a rout of Calgary.
Jordan Eberle, Ryan Smyth, Taylor Hall, Ales Hemsky and Eric Belanger also had goals for Edmonton (23-30-6).
Scott Hannan scored his second goal of the season and first in 52 games to provide the only offence for the Flames (28-23-10), who lost in regulation for the first time since Jan. 31.
Calgary, which fell to 5-1-3 in February, had won 10 straight at home against the Oilers and beaten them in 16 of 17 meetings.
Edmonton had won just one of six overall and one of nine on the road.
DEVILS 4, MAPLE LEAFS 3, OT
TORONTO (AP) – Mark Fayne scored 1:18 into overtime to give New Jersey a victory over Toronto. Fayne’s weak shot from the point found its way through goalie Jonas Gustavsson.
Petr Sykora had a goal and an assist for New Jersey (34-20-4), and David Clarkson and former Maple Leafs forward Alexei Ponikarovsky also scored. The Devils have won four games in a row.
Phil Kessel’s 31st goal of the season forced overtime for Toronto (29-24-6) with 44 seconds left in the third period. Tim Connolly scored in the first period, and Clarke MacArthur added a goal in the second.
Martin Brodeur made 29 saves for the win. Gustavsson stopped 28 for the Leafs.
FLYERS 5, JETS 4, OT
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) – Jaromir Jagr scored at 4:16 of overtime to lift Philadelphia over Winnipeg.
Philadelphia’s Wayne Simmonds sent the game into the extra period with a goal with 10 seconds left in regulation.

Ilya Bryzgalov made 22 saves in the victory for Philadelphia (33-19-7). Claude Giroux had a goal and two assists, and Scott Hartnell added a goal and an assist. Maxime Talbot also scored for the Flyers.
Ondrej Pavelec made 50 saves for Winnipeg (29-26-7).
Evander Kane made it 4-3 for the Jets at 4:57 of the third period on the power play.
Andrew Ladd scored a pair of goals 64 seconds apart and Dustin Byfuglien had a goal and an assist for Winnipeg. Tim Stapleton added three assists, and Bryan Little added two.
Winnipeg won the season series 3-0-1, and the teams combined for 39 goals in the four games – including the Jets’ 9-8 win on Oct. 27 that was the highest-scoring NHL game in 15 years.
PREDATORS 3, CANUCKS 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Mike Fisher scored a power-play goal and added two assists to lift Nashville past Vancouver.
Sergei Kostitsyn and David Legwand also scored for the Predators, who have won two straight. Dale Weise had the lone goal for the Canucks, whose four-game winning streak was snapped.
Fisher who sat out Sunday’s game in Dallas due to illness, broke the scoreless tie 5:42 into the second period.
Pekka Rinne made 32 saves for the win. Roberto Luongo stopped 25 shots in the loss.
STARS 3, CANADIENS 0
MONTREAL (AP) – Ryan Garbutt scored his first NHL goal and Kari Lehtonen made 31 saves as Dallas beat Montreal.
Mike Ribeiro and Tom Wandell also scored for the Stars (30-26-4).
Carey Price stopped 33 shots for the Canadiens (24-27-10), who have lost four of five after a four-game winning streak.
The Stars took control in the first period, outshooting the Canadiens 15-6. The shots were 9-0 in favour of Dallas before Montreal recorded its first at 8:14.
For a fifth straight game, the Canadiens allowed their opponent to strike first when Garbutt, just called up from the minors, snapped a shot from the circle over a crouched Price.
PENGUINS 2, RANGERS 0
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 27 shots to tie Tom Barrasso’s franchise record for career shutouts, and Pittsburgh topped the Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers.
Evgeni Malkin scored his 33rd goal of the season and added an assist on Steve Sullivan’s tally to help the Penguins bounce back from a listless loss in Buffalo on Sunday.
Henrik Lundqvist made 29 stops for the Rangers, but New York lost for the second time in three games.
Pittsburgh posted its first home win over the Rangers since 2009.
SABRES 2, ISLANDERS 1
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Ryan Miller made 30 saves, including stopping Matt Moulson on the doorstep with 4:04 left, and led Buffalo over the New York Islanders.
Tyler Myers and Thomas Vanek staked the Sabres to a 2-0 lead, and Buffalo won its second in a row since an 0-3-1 skid. Jason Pominville and Derek Roy had two assists for Buffalo (26-27-7), which jumped a point ahead of the Islanders (25-27-8) in the Eastern Conference standings.
Frans Nielsen scored with 5:08 left to snap the Islanders’ goal drought at 106 minutes, 51 seconds, a day after New York lost 6-0 at home to Ottawa. The Islanders are 4-5-1 in their past 10 games.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Jeff Carter had three goals – two on the power play during Columbus’ four-goal first period – and the last-place Blue Jackets handed San Jose its season-high fourth straight loss.
R.J. Umberger and Rick Nash, who is the subject of trade rumours with the deadline less than a week away, had a goal and an assist. David Savard also scored for Columbus. Vinny Prospal added three assists, and Derick Brassard had two.
Steve Mason made 38 saves to get the win and surpass Marc Denis as the Blue Jackets’ career wins leader.
Logan Couture scored twice and Joe Thornton also had a goal for San Jose. Antti Niemi was pulled after allowing three goals on 11 shots. The Sharks fell to 1-4-1 on their season-high, nine-game road trip.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Steven Stamkos scored twice, to push his NHL lead to 42 goals, and added an assist as Tampa Bay beat Anaheim.
Stamkos put the Lightning up 1-0 when he poked a loose puck past goalie Jonas Hiller on a power play 28 seconds into the game. The centre, who has five goals and eight points during a three-game point streak, made it 2-0 with an in-close rebound goal at 17:58 of the first.
Tampa Bay also got a goal and two assists from Teddy Purcell. The Lightning have won three in a row and are 10-3-2 in the last 15 games.
Saku Koivu and Bobby Ryan both had a goal and an assist for the Ducks, who were 6-0-3 in their previous nine games. Anaheim dropped to 4-1-2 on an eight-game road trip.
Tampa Bay was without captain Vincent Lecavalier, who will be sidelined indefinitely by a broken right hand.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Radim Vrbata scored his second goal late in regulation and Phoenix rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat Los Angeles in a shootout.
Shane Doan also had two goals, and Martin Hanzal matched his career high with three assists to extend Phoenix’s point streak to nine games.
Vrbata scored on a power play with 2:27 left after Kings winger Kyle Clifford received a game misconduct for a head shot on Coyotes centre Gilbert Brule.
Ray Whitney and Mikkel Boedker scored for Phoenix in the shootout, which ended when Los Angeles defenceman Jack Johnson missed wide right.
Drew Doughty, Andrei Loktionov and Dustin Brown scored in the first period, and Justin Williams added his 12th goal in the second for the Kings.
