VPD officers remember Steven Tyler encounter with sweet emotion

WATCH: Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler was anything but a reclusive rock star during the B.C. leg of the band’s latest tour. Kristen Robinson has the story.

It wasn’t the same old song and dance earlier this month for two Vancouver Police Department officers.

Two weeks ago Constables Rich Horner and Richard Vanstone were on their regular shift in Stanley Park, going round and round with their horses Turbo and Billy – “the real rock stars of the police department,” says Cst. Horner.

Or at least they normally are. On a beautiful day full of sunshine, Horner and Vanstone came across Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, taking a break and walking the dog.

“I thought he looked like Johnny Depp. That maybe have been maybe drinking a little too hard sort of thing,” joked Horner.

“I do remember the 70s. But apparently not enough.”

A photo with Tyler soon followed.

“He talked about horses and his experiences with horses, and it went from there. I asked him if we could tweet it, and he said ‘no problem, VPD rocks,'” said Cst. Vanstone.

No surprize that plenty of people in Stanley Park began to walk Tyler’s way, not wanting to miss a thing.

“He was talking to all the people there, posing for selfies, shaking hands. He was part of the show,” said Horner.

It was a critical mass of B.C. love for Tyler, who does more then let the music do the talking when it comes to entertaining his fans.

The day before, he was seen playing “Dream On” on a public piano in downtown Kelowna before a concert. And before he needed to fly away from here for another concert in Victoria, the rock star, anything but jaded, posed with fans in several places around Vancouver.

It made for crazy, amazing times for many of Tyler’s fans.

And as for the two VPD officers? They’re back in the saddle.

Think about it.
