Argyle Street weekend closures set to begin

HALIFAX – The city will start closing a block of Argyle Street this weekend as part of it’s Argyle Shared Street Pilot Project.

The street will close at 4pm on Thursdays, and it will be closed from Thursday through Sunday each week from now to mid-September.

The Argyle Shared Street Pilot Project kicked off last week with the painting of the asphalt with a bright blue and green argyle pattern.

The project is an alternative, pedestrian-oriented street design which provides space for community events.

The city is using the pavement marking, on-street amenities and seating to test different options that may be made permanent as part of the Argyle Street redesign in 2017. That redesign will be launched to coincide with the completion of the Nova Centre.
