Cordero Maldonado really, really likes the San Antonio Spurs. So much so, in fact, that’s he’s widely known in NBA circles as the super-fan named ‘Spurs Jesus’ and makes appearances, complete with costume.

He even wears a pair of sandals and promotes peace…unless you’re a rival team.

But on Monday his focus wasn’t on basketball. He was doing some laundry when he discovered another man — later identified as 19-year-old Jose Medina — trying to break into his home through a window.

He ran outside and chased him down the San Antonio Riverwalk..

“I immediately bolted down my stairs and out the back door and hopped the fence and pursued him. I was barrelling down the side of the river going after him,” he told WOAI. “He saw me coming after him and jumping over all these plants.”

Maldonado claims to work out regularly at a local gym and credits that for his ability to track down the suspect.

“Caught the fellow and slammed him to the dirt and restrained him until the boys from the San Antonio Police Department took him off of my hands,” he explained on Facebook.

“Like the nice guy I am, I tackled him into the grass and not into the concrete,” he added. “That was for him, not for me.”

‘Spurs Jesus’ says he has already forgiven Medina but the police haven’t. He’s been charged with burglary of habitation.
