SASKATOON – A bomb threat forced the early closure of a Saskatoon shopping centre. Midtown Plaza was supposed to be open until 9 p.m. Wednesday, but stores started closing up at 6:30 p.m. after the bomb threat.
According to Saskatoon police, mall security was approached by an individual who indicated that the establishment was going to be “blown up” within a few minutes.
Tenants in the mall were quickly notified and searches were conducted of their retail space to look for anything suspicious.
Mall security and police, including the explosive disposal unit, conducted a threat assessment and determined the threat was not credible.

During this time frame, the mall had emptied, but the doors were unlocked with some stores closing up and others remaining open as shoppers continued to enter the building.
Mall security did eventually ask all stores to close for the night.
