Recall of two beef products due to potential e-coli risk

Two beef products are being recalled across the country because of a potential contamination that has been linked to at least one reported illness.

There’s concerns that Country Morning Beef Burgers and no name Club Pack Beef Steakettes could contain e-coli, so if you have purchased either of these products, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning you not to eat them.

Food contaminated with e-coli bacteria may not look different or smell spoiled, however, eating it could cause serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses. Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. Some people may also have seizures or strokes, while others may need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis. Permanent kidney damage is also a potential risk. In severe cases, people may die.

The following products are affected by this alert:

In Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the North West Territories, the Country Morning Beef Burgers product has been sold in COOP and TGP grocery stores.

The no name Club Pack Beef Steakettes have been distributed to the following stores in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba: Superstore, Extra Foods, Extra Foods no frills, Shop Easy/SuperValu, and Your Independent Grocer.

In Ontario, the product has been sold in Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws Great Food, Cash&Carry/RCWC Ontario Corporate, Extra Foods, Freshmart, no frills, RCWC West Corporate, Value-mart, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs and Zehrs Great Food.
