Toddler reported missing in Monteregie dies

WATCH ABOVE: Quebec provincial police are investigating after a toddler wandered away from his family home during the supper hour Friday night. The two-year-old was later found in a ditch. He was transported to hospital where he passed away.

MONTREAL – A two-year-old boy who was reported missing Friday night in Waterloo, has died after being found in a ditch.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) were made aware of the toddler’s disappearance at around 6:10 p.m. on Friday.

It appears that the little boy momentarily escaped his parents vigilance near Lavigne Street.

The SQ rapidly launched an air and ground search for the missing child.

Two canine units, one helicopter, a specialized search and rescue crew from the SQ, the fire department and numerous volunteers combed the ground around the family’s property.

The little boy was found in critical condition in a ditch at around 11 p.m.

He was transported to hospital where he was declared dead.

Police would not confirm the boy’s identity but media reports have identified the child as being Dawson Lacroix.

An autopsy will be performed to confirm cause of death.
