REGINA – Ticks are typically active from May to June, but Saskatchewan isn’t out of the woods yet.
There’s been an increase of the critters this year throughout different parts of the province. The dog tick in particular has been expanding its range.
While the life cycles of the bugs are winding down, people should still be on the lookout for the bloodsuckers.
“It should be noted that the juvenile stages of some of these ticks are still active actually through the summer,” said Phil Curry, the entomologist for the ministry of health. “The black legged tick, the one that carries lyme disease, can be active right through to fall.”
While ticks may be having a big year, we are enjoying the lowest number of mosquitoes in the province since 2003.
