MONTREAL – Global News has learned the city of Cote St Luc is considering naming a baseball field in honour of former Expo Gary Carter.
City councillor Mike Cohen told reporter Domenic Fazioli this morning it is exploring ways of remembering the baseball Hall of Famer.
“We have received many phone calls at City Hall today. Everyone remembering what Carter meant to Montreal but especially Cote St Luc”, Cohen said.

Carter took part in a popular baseball school at Edward J Kirwin Park during his playing career. One of the two baseball fields at Kirwin Park could be named in “The Kid”‘s honour.
“Many people don’t know this but Carter and his family lived in Cote St Luc when he was an Expo. He had a home here during his final season in 1992”, Cohen told. Global News.
Carter passed away yesterday at age 57. He was fighting brain cancer. He was inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame in 2003 after an exceptional 19 year career. He played 12 of those seasons as a member of the Expos.
“Gary Carter was the Rocket Richard of baseball in this city”, Cohen said.
