Woman killed in Beddington Heights collision

WATCH ABOVE:Police are investigating what caused a fatal crash in Calgary’s northwest on Wednesday. As Mia Sosiak reports, a witness says one of the vehicles was sent flying through the air.

CALGARY – A 65-year-old woman was killed in a two-car crash in the community of Beddington Heights on Wednesday.

The collision happened on 14 Street N.W. just south Berkley Gate N.W. around 11:15 a.m.

Police say a Honda CRV was travelling northbound on 14 Street when it crossed over the centre median, colliding head-on with a southbound Acura SUV.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics suspect she suffered a medical issue of some kind before the crash.

The driver of the Acura, a 59-year-old woman, was extricated from her vehicle and transported to the Foothills Medical Centre in serious, life-threatening condition.

The collision caused the temporary closure of a portion of 14 Street N.W.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors.
