PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – A police dive team is searching a section of river in Peterborough, Ont., today for evidence in a homicide case involving a 74-year-old woman.
The OPP says the dive team’s work in the Otonabee River is in response to a tip received from the public in the case of Lise Fredette.
Fredette was last seen leaving her job at a local Walmart on Nov. 12 last year, prompting an extensive search by land, boat and air.
Her ex-boyfriend, Andy Watson, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and criminal harassment in the case, but Fredette’s body has not been found.
It’s alleged that Watson was told by police in September to stay away from Fredette, but that he continued to contact her.
Police allege he attacked Fredette in her driveway after she got home from work, causing “grievous harm,” then drove her to another location where he may have left her.
