Kelowna road shut down due to suspicious package reopened

UPDATE–12:20 Cawson Avenue has now reopened. RCMP and the Kelowna Fire Department found the suspicious package was empty and did not pose any threat to the public.

UPDATE–Trained explosives detecting dogs did not find anything to indicate the package was detonative.

The HAZMAT team will remain on the scene as the investigation continues.

KELOWNA– Emergency crews have shut down a portion of Cawston Aveneue to investigate a suspicious item.

Police are asking motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area.

Cawston Aveneue from Ellis Street to St. Paul Street is closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic while an investigation can be done.
