MONTREAL – Mourners gathered Saturday afternoon at the Feron Funeral Home at 2630 Notre-Dame Street Ouest to remember slain LaSalle mother, Samantha Higgins.

She was remembered as a loving mother with a quick smile.

“Oh my God she was great,” said Laurie McKernan, a family friend. “Very loving she was extremely generous and unbelievable.”

Police discovered Higgins’ dismembered body stuffed in a bag and floating in a river in Hinchinbrooke on July 9.

They arrested and charged her fiancé Nick Fontanelli with her murder.

She was 22 at the time of her death.

Inside the visitation service, it was “heartwrenching,” said Angela Torino, who lived in the same neighbourhood.

Visitors inside were handed pink slips of paper that read: “I have to go mom, so keep your faith. I’ll be there for you at heaven’s gate.”

Higgins’ friends and family have also set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her children, 11-week-old Lorenzo and four-year-old Anna.
