Fiancé charged with first-degree murder of Samantha Higgins

WATCH: Nick Fontanelli has been charged with first-degree murder and committing an indignity to a dead body in the death of fiancée Samantha Higgins. Global’s Billy Shields reports.

MONTREAL – Nicholas Fontanelli, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder and committing an indignity to a dead body in the death of fiancée Samantha Higgins, also 22.

Fontanelli appeared in court Tuesday afternoon.

Sûreté du Québec confirmed Monday the young man was taken into custody in connection with the gruesome murder.

The body of the mother-of-two was found dismembered and in a bag under a bridge in Hinchinbrooke, Quebec last Thursday.

He did not enter a plea and will remain behind bars until his next court appearance on August 17.
