HINCHINBROOKE, QUE – The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has confirmed that the body found in Hinchinbrooke, Quebec is that of 22-year-old Lasalle mother Samantha Higgins.
Higgins was reported missing July 7; she had left a friend’s house around midnight and never made it home.
“We don’t have many details yet as investigators are still working on the case,” said Mélanie Dumaresq with the SQ.
Residents of the small town of Hinchinbrooke made the grisly discovery Thursday evening.
A group of four people heading home from work around 7:30 p.m. when they discovered a dismembered torso in a bag floating in the river.
“One of my colleagues was heading home and he usually looks over the edge of the bridge and he found the body,” said Brodie Ovans.
“It’s not everyday you hear of something in the river. So, we thought maybe he was pulling our leg but he seemed pretty serious.”
Hinchinbrooke is a rural community of about 2,200 people in the Châteauguay Valley near Huntingdon.
