The advisory against using water from the Little Bow River or Travers Reservoir for cooking, bathing or drinking water was lifted Sunday by Alberta Environment.

The provincial department says about 9800 litres of urea ammonium nitrate, a commonly-used fertilizer solution, was accidently released near the Little Bow River on land northeast of Carmangay in Vulcan County.

The department hired a third-party contractor and used a vaccum truck to clear the toxic material.

Based on results from a number of samplings, Alberta Environment and Parks and Alberta Health Services have determined that there is no risk to human or animal health.
