OKANAGAN — Mike Brasseur, a mechanic with the North Okanagan-Shuswap School District, will be representing the province at America’s Best Technician Challenge in November.

Brasseur participated at the inaugural Association of School Transportation Services of B.C. skills competition in Kamloops earlier this month.

He competed in an event involving buses, where each competitor had 15 minutes to identify all the defects on the vehicle.

“It was a short time frame to inspect the buses,” he says. “Usually I take a couple of days to do a good job inspecting and fixing defects in a school bus.”

But despite this challenge, Brasseur came out on top. He’s won an all-expenses-paid trip to Richmond, Virginia, where the competition is happening.

This will be the first time Canadians have been able to compete in the event.
