TORONTO – “Sleep in their beds, so you may know their dreams.”
No, that isn’t a line from the latest Hollywood horror movies, or a creepy novel – the line is from home-rental service Airbnb’s latest ad campaign, and it’s giving Twitter users the heebie-jeebies.
The ad, titled “Is Mankind,” was released Tuesday by the online service to celebrate its ability to allow users to experience life anywhere in the world.
“Airbnb believes that people can and should feel like they belong anywhere in the world,” reads a description of the ad on Airbnb’s YouTube page.
“That feeling is possible because of the human kindness found in our community – because of hosts who were once strangers, who welcome us no matter how far we are from home.”
When put into context, the other lines in the ad don’t sound so creepy – in fact, they make some really nice points about the Airbnb experience.
“Go look through their windows, so you can understand their views,” the narrator says at one point.
“Sit at their tables so you can share their tastes,” is another line.
But, when tweeted without context, that one line still sounds really creepy to social media users.
