WATCH ABOVE: Steve Darling talks about his weight loss on the Morning News.
Global BC Morning News anchor Steve Darling is talking about his weight loss in the new edition of TV Week magazine.
Darling has lost 65 pounds since January and says in the magazine that the death of a friend’s husband caused him to reevaluate his own life.
Many have been wondering how Darling has lost the weight and he says it comes down to three words – Dr. Allana Polo.
The naturopathic physician in New Westminster has guided Darling on a customized Pound-a-Day diet, meaning he only consumed 850 calories a day for the first five weeks.
Darling says, despite fears about undertaking the eating plan, he did not find it that difficult. He says he didn’t feel deprived of food and that you can eat quite a lot for 850 calories. Darling’s wife Jen also joined him in the eating plan and ended up losing 35 pounds herself.
Aside from the 850 calorie-a-day diet, Darling also had to have weekly B12 injections and a daily dose of HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin or the pregnancy hormone). The hormone helps the metabolism to accelerate fat burning and to dull hunger pains.

After five weeks of that diet, there is three weeks of maintenance with a high-protein and low-carb diet to ease back into a regular eating routine.
Darling says he knows there is some controversy around the program and while he doesn’t know if it will work for everyone, he knows it works for him.
Since losing weight, Darling says his health is better and he has had to buy new clothes.
