Canada’s Amanda Chudoba wins gold in women’s trap shooting at Pan Am Games

TORONTO – Canada’s Amanda Chudoba won the gold medal in women’s trap shooting at the Pan Am Games on Monday and earned an automatic berth to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Chudoba, 25, beat out American Kayle Browning in a shootoff to break a tie after they both hit 11 of the initial 15 targets.

Hailing from Spruce Grove, Alberta., Chudoba has won five consecutive national shooting titles and will represent Canada at her first Olympics in Rio.

The medal was Canada’s 15th gold at the Pan Am Games and the 35th overall. Day 3 of the games was another busy one for Team Canada as Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion added to the medal haul, winning gold in women’s synchronized 10-metre platform, Adam van Koeverden took home bronze in the K-1 1000m sprint, while Phillippe Gagne and Francois Imbeau-Dulac won silver in the men’s 3m synchronized springboard.

Canada’s Pan Am flag-bearer, Mark Oldershaw, won silver in the C-1 1000m sprint and Canada also won gold in the men’s coxless four at the Pan Am rowing championships.
