WINNIPEG – Part-time soldiers based in Winnipeg are headed to Saskatchewan to help fight wildfires.
About 40 reservists packed their gear and got ready to board buses Monday at Minto Armouries on St. Matthews Avenue.
The military says the soldiers will deploy first to Prince Albert where they will learn basic firefighting skills and likely head into the fire zone a few days after that.
All the reservists being deployed from Winnipeg Monday volunteered for the assignment, the army says.
