SASKATOON – Claude Resource has temporarily suspended operations at it Seabee Gold Mine in northern Saskatchewan. A wildfire is approximately eight kilometres south of the mine.
Officials with the Saskatoon-based company said the temporary mining suspension is due to the risk of high winds that could potentially bring heavy smoke and ash from the wildfire.

The company said it is taking steps to remove non-essential personnel from the site.
“Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our employees. As a precautionary measure, we have moved non-essential personnel and have temporarily suspended underground mining operations,” said Claude Resources president and CEO Brian Skanderbeg.
“Additionally, we have measures in place to protect the health and safety of our employees and facilities.”

Officials said production from the mill is not affected and the facility will continue to operate. They said there is currently 10,000 tonne stockpile of ore available, enough for 12 days of production, and that at this time, the company expects to meet its production guidance for the year.
