Laval police seize THC-laced gummy bears

WATCH: Police in Laval are warning parents to be on the lookout for THC-laced gummy bears that may be in circulation. Global’s Peter Anthony Holder reports.

LAVAL – Police in Laval made an interesting discovery back in May after stopping two teens for smoking pot.

After searching the boys’ car, police found about a dozen gummy bears that were laced with THC, the chemical component of marijuana that gives you a high.

Frédéric Jean with Laval police said they don’t know where the drugs came from, but believe there are at least five other batches in circulation.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The gummy bears were sent to Health Canada to determine their potency and police are awaiting the results.

The discovery is raising concerns because the drugs are in candy form and don’t smell or taste like pot so they could be easily distributed, or even accidentally eaten by children.

Jean said this is the first time they have confiscated drugs disguised as gummies.

The two men are being charged with possession of cannabis.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
