TORONTO — A new TV series about FBI recruits training in Virginia will be mostly shot in Canada.

Production of Quantico will start this month in Montreal and run until mid-December. Additional filming will take place in New York City.

The series is scheduled to air on ABC Sunday nights beginning Sept. 27.

Created by Joshua Safran (Smash, Gossip Girl), the 13-episode series stars Aunjanue Ellis (NCIS: Los Angeles), Bollywood actress-singer Priyanka Chopra, Jake McLaughlin (Believe) and Tate Ellington (The Mindy Project).

Through flashbacks, viewers will learn the reasons behind each recruit’s decision to join the FBI — and a flash forward will show that Chopra’s character is accused of pulling off a massive terrorist attack.

The series is already generating controversy over a depiction of a Mormon character (Brian J. Smith) in the pilot episode (which was shot in Atlanta). In one scene, he is seen wearing only his temple garments, which are considered sacred.

“If the Mormon storyline airs in its present form, there will definitely be unhappy Mormons,” opined Scott D. Pierce of The Salt Lake Tribune.

On the show’s official Facebook page, Joanne Tanney Clements commented: “Very disappointed that you would disrespect any group or religion by making fun of things that are considered sacred.”
