SASKATOON – After a week and a half of taking in some hot melodies, the 2015 SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival has come to a close. The 29th edition of JazzFest in Saskatoon took place from June 25 to July 5.

Organizers were impressed and thankful for an estimated 75,000 people in attendance this summer, despite smoke travelling down from wildfires in northern Saskatchewan. Approximately 80,000 to 85,000 people attended JazzFest in 2014 and the year before.

“We’re very happy with how it went, for the most part we had some great weather, it was a little bit smoky here and there but for the most part … people seemed to be having a good time enjoying themselves,” said Jacqueline Conway, JazzFest marketing director.

“Generally, we expect around 85,000 which could have been a result of the smoky weather, people just not wanting to go out or health concerns.”

One performance was rescheduled. The festival’s publicist Susan Bosse says it was the artist’s choice to cancel the outdoor show on June 30 and it took place on July 3 inside the Delta Bessborough hotel.

Volunteers tore down the main stage at the Bessborough Sunday night and they look forward to coming back next year for what promises to be a bigger and better festival.

Music filled the air during the 11-day festival which included musical artists like Lights and The Roots.
