Culture Club looking for harmonica players in B.C., Ontario

UPDATE: In a July 16 interview with Vancouver’s 96.9 Jack Fm, Boy George said the band decided against using fans as harmonica players. “We were getting too many whack jobs,” he said. “We’ve now got [a harmonica player] on stage so we’re good.”

TORONTO — If you live in B.C. or Ontario and can play the harmonica parts in “Karma Chameleon” and “Church of the Poison Mind,” you could end up on stage with Culture Club.

The reunited ’80s band is heading out this month on a tour of the U.S. and Canada and needs harmonica players in each city.

The instrument figures prominently in the two hit singles from the band’s 1983 album Colour by Numbers.

On the album, British session musician Judd Lander played the harmonica riffs. He currently runs a public relations company in London.

On Monday, lead singer Boy George invited harmonica players who know the song to post videos.

Culture Club kicks off its tour July 17 at the Hard Rock Casino in Vancouver followed by a show July 18 at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond. The band plays Casino Rama, north of Toronto, on Aug. 6 and The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor on Aug. 7.

A tour scheduled last year was called off when Boy George was diagnosed with a polyp on his vocal cords.
