CALGARY – Italian food lovers in the city will be happy to learn of a new European marketplace: After more than 50 years in Edmonton, the Spinelli family opened an Italian Centre Shop location in Calgary’s southeast on Thursday.
“We’re bringing Italy to Calgary, from our home to yours,” said Italian Centre Shop owner and President Teresa Spinelli in a release. “Italian hospitality and good service is deeply rooted in our values and beliefs because of my father, Frank Spinelli.”
Spinelli, an Italian immigrant, founded the shop in Edmonton in 1959, and his daughter, Teresa, continues in his footsteps today. There are more than 600 types of meat, cheese and antipasti, including Sardinian Truffle Pecorino, a cafe with authentic Italian treats and pastries, and a giant “Cathedral of Cheese” featuring 80 wheels at the Calgary location.
Calgary store manager Gino Marghella is giving away $1,000 in gift cards every day from July 2 to 5. To enter, visit the store at 9919 Fairmount Drive S.E. from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., take a selfie with Marghella, and post on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtags #MeetGino and #StepIntoItaly while tagging the @ItalianCtrYYC account.
