Mississauga hosts massive Canada Day party featuring Kardinal Offishall

Around 25,000 revelers crammed Celebration Square Wednesday night to show off their patriotism and ring in Canada’s 148th birthday.

“We have the best entertainment here in Canada. It’s the biggest celebration,” said mayor Bonnie Crombie.

“Ours is one of the greatest cities across Canada. Our diversity makes us so strong, so rich, and so vibrant.”

The headliner was Canadian Hip Hop artist Kardinal Offishall, who energized the crowd with a 60-minute set.

“Canada Day is the one day we can all come together and party regardless of religion or creed,” said Offishall.

Up-and-coming musicians with Canadian roots like Scott Helman also performed for young fans screaming in the front row.

“I think it’s so important to recognize, especially being Canadian, how lucky we are to live in such a safe and loving place,” said Helman.

Along with the music, over 24 food trucks kept the massive crowds fed.

The event featured all-day entertainment including trampoline athletes, stilt walkers, and acrobats. The celebration even attracted Americans envious of our way of life.

“There’s so much that goes on in the US that isn’t good and that I don’t want my kids to see; and when I come here, I have a good example for them to follow, like all the multiculturalism,” said Arshiya who was visiting from Arizona.

The event, hosted by Global News/Shaw Media personalities Liza Fromer, Farah Nasser, Antony Robart and Sangita Patel, ended with a fireworks display over Celebration Square.
