No Name and Compliments brand frozen chicken products recalled over salmonella concerns

TORONTO – Sofina Foods Inc. is recalling No Name and Compliments brand frozen chicken products over possible salmonella contamination.

The following products, which have been sold across the country, are included in the recall:

  • No Name Chicken Burgers (2kg) with the codes 2016 JA 22 EST 374 and UPC 0 60383 11695 8
  • Compliments Chicken Strips (907g) with the codes BB/MA 2016 JA 22 EST 374 and UPC 0 55742 33687 0
  • Compliments Chicken Nuggets (907g) with the codes BB/MA 2016 JA 22 EST 374 and UPC 0 55742 33688 7

It is advised to not consume the products and to return them to the store you purchased them from for a refund.

The recall comes just days after Canada’s Public Health Agency released a statement reminding the public to take the proper precautions when handling food after a salmonella outbreak linked to frozen breaded chicken products that sickened 44 people in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Salmonella is a bacterium commonly found in raw chicken and frozen raw breaded chicken products. Symptoms of salmonella include fever, chills, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, headache, nausea and vomiting.
