OTTAWA – Veteran paddler Mark Oldershaw will lead the Canadian team into the opening ceremonies at the Pan American Games in Toronto later this month.

The 32-year-old Burlington, Ont., native was named the team’s flag-bearer today on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

A third generation paddler, Oldershaw was a bronze medallist in the men’s singles 1,000-metre canoe event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

The Toronto Games will be his Pan Am debut.

Some 700 Canadians will be competing at the Games, which open July 10 at Rogers Centre.

The Canadian Olympic Committee also launched the Olympic Club on Wednesday. The digital fan club will connect users through social media, offer loyalty rewards and exclusive content.
