2 dead after fire in rural area southwest of Olds, Alberta

WATCH: RCMP are investigating after two people were found dead in a burned out home southwest of Olds. Emergency crews were called out early Monday morning after the home was engulfed in flames.

CALGARY – RCMP say two bodies have been found after a house fire at a rural home southwest of Olds, Alta. in the early hours of Monday morning.

Olds RCMP were called to the residence at about 4 a.m. and found the home fully engulfed in flames.

An excavator was on scene around 3 p.m. on Tuesday as officials tried to determine the cause of the fire. The house was completely destroyed.

“Anytime there’s a fire, a lot of the physical evidence is lost,” said Olds RCMP Cpl. Michael Black. “It’s always tough working in rural environments getting resources out here to try and save the scene. It’s been difficult on everybody.”

RCMP say the fire is not considered suspicious.

Police and fire officials are not releasing further details until they’ve spoken with the residents’ family.

Autopsies are scheduled for July 1.
