CÔTE SAINT-LUC – It’s a first for Côte St-Luc. The city is getting in on the trend of adding public pianos to their parks.
An inauguration ceremony was held Monday evening in Rembrandt park to celebrate the start of what officials hope will be a summer filled with music.
“We want to attract people to our public spaces and we figure music will attract them,” Mayor Anthony Housefather told Global News.
Jazz legend Oliver Jones was invited to be the first to play the piano on site.
“I can’t imagine a life without music,” Jones told reporters Monday as he played songs for a crowd of residents who came for the inauguration.
“It gives a nice atmosphere and allows those without access to a piano to get a chance to play.”
Public pianos have been in other parts of Montreal like the Plateau, Lachine and the South West borough since 2012.
The Piano at Rembrandt park is available for the public to play from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. every day.
