EDMONTON – In honour of fallen EPS Const. Daniel Woodall and his family, FC Edmonton will host the inaugural Woodall Cup on Sunday, July 26.
The soccer match will be played between the Edmonton Police Service Blues and the British Selects. The Selects are made up of British expats who now call Edmonton home.
A British native, Woodall started his policing career with the Greater Manchester Police and had a passion for soccer, or football as it’s known in Europe.
Danny Greenwood, who plays for the Selects, met Woodall while watching a match at an Edmonton pub.

“I know that Dan would really love having this game in his honour, which we hope will be the start of an annual event to show support for the Edmonton Police Service and to the Woodall Family,” said Greenwood.
“It will bring the things Dan loved the most: the game, the British people, the EPS and Edmonton, the city he chose to protect and serve.”

The game will be held at Clarke Field at 10 a.m. on the 26th, prior to FC Edmonton’s game against the Atlanta Silverbacks. All proceeds raised will go towards to D. Woodall Family Fund.
Const. Bruce McGregor with the EPS says he’s honoured to be able to help raise funds for the Woodall family.
“Those playing share the love Dan had for the game. Playing a game you love in honour of someone like Dan is simply a privilege,” said McGregor. “Claire and the boys are our family and even little things we can do to help them are very important. This will be a great afternoon for EPS and the community to again work together.”
Woodall, a 35-year-old father-of-two, was fatally shot on Monday, June 8 while executing an arrest warrant in west Edmonton.
Tickets to the soccer match are $10 and can be purchased online or at the Clarke Field box office.
