LUNENBURG, NS – The Bluenose II will finally set sail on its first tour since restoration work on the vessel began in 2009.

Captain Phil Watson has deemed the crew ready to sail, and the first public tour is set to happen on July 19, if the sailing conditions are favourable.

“We can now say with confidence that the Bluenose II will be back as Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador this summer,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Geoff MacLellan in a press release on Monday. “Nova Scotians and visitors from all over Canada, and the world will have the chance to see and sail on this historic Canadian icon.”

All of the restoration work has been completed and now the vessel has to wait for certification from Transport Canada.

There will be a community event in Lunenburg to give the public the opportunity to see the newly restored vessel in her home port before public tours begin. The date and time of the event is still to be determined.
