WINNIPEG — A Manitoba Mountie faces several criminal charges in connection with the theft of two guns that had been in RCMP custody.
Cpl. Jason Prettie of the Dauphin RCMP is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of possession of a weapon obtained by commission of an offence and two counts of obstructing justice.
Dauphin RCMP were told on March 30 that Prettie had two guns that had been in RCMP custody in Minnedosa, Man., in 2009, when Prettie was stationed there, a news release said.
RCMP investigators found a rifle and a shotgun that didn’t belong to Prettie in a private residence connected to him, the release said.
Prettie is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Dauphin on Tuesday.
He has been suspended with pay while his criminal case is heard.
