Poor water quality closes Cap-Saint-Jacques, Île-Bizard beaches

MONTREAL – Both the beaches at Cap-St-Jacques and the Bois de l’île-Bizard nature park have been closed after showing signs of elevated fecal coliform during water-quality tests.

Officials believe this happened because of the high levels of rain in the area, which may have washed animal waste into the water.

Exposure to the bacteria can result in ear infections, hepatitis A and bacterial gastroenteritis.

The City of Montreal will conduct new tests on Thursday and are expected to release the results on their website by Friday.

The parks will remain open for any non-beach activities.
