SASKATOON – Air Canada and WestJet are increasing flights in and out of Saskatoon. Saskatoon International Airport Authority announced Tuesday both domestic carriers are adding an additional daily flight between Saskatoon and Calgary.

Air Canada is also launching a new seasonal red eye flight to Toronto, running from July 1 to the end of August. That flight will depart at 12:35 a.m. and arrive in Toronto at 5:41 a.m. Officials say this option will allow travellers to catch early morning connections in Toronto without the need of having to stay overnight.

WestJet has also doubled its frequency to the Vancouver market with flights six days per week, compared three flights per week last summer.

“With the increase in domestic air service, YXE expects to gain back 58,000 annual seats to the Saskatoon market,” said Stephen Maybury, president and CEO of Saskatoon Airport Authority.

Maybury says these flights help address the loss of air service when United Airlines withdrew its service early this year. He added that connectivity with major world airports is a key focus for them over the short term.
