EDMONTON – An Alberta Mountie is accused of attacking a civilian who was being held in police custody and assaulting him with pepper spray.
Const. Eric Pomerleau faces charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and common assault.
Police say the charges stem from an on-duty incident on Aug. 19, 2012, in Red Deer, and follow an investigation into a public complaint.
RCMP would not say if the alleged attack took place in police cells.
Pomerleau is to make his first appearance in Red Deer provincial court on July 14.
Police say he is now on administrative duties at another RCMP detachment in Alberta.
