Accused killer Joshua Petrin back in Saskatoon court

SASKATOON – Charged with first-degree murder in the death of Lorry Santos, Joshua Petrin was in a Saskatoon courtroom Monday. As part of a voir dire, Petrin is expected to be in court all week; however, the court proceedings can’t be reported.

The Crown prosecutor in the case has also applied for a publication ban regarding one aspect of the trial and told the judge not a single media outlet has objected to the request that was filed 10 days ago.

Petrin, 32, has opted for a jury trial this fall and was recently sentenced to four months of time served after being found guilty of uttering death threats to a staff member at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre.

In 2012, Petrin was charged with Lorry Santos’ murder along with the conspiracy to commit murder. He allegedly has ties with an Alberta street gang known as the White Boy Posse.
