A fire near Mt. Benson Regional Park is four hectares in size, says the BC Wildfire Management Branch.

A small fire burning west of Nanaimo is human caused, says the BC Wildfire Management Branch.

The fire on Mount Benson grew quickly Saturday afternoon, destroying many trees on private forestry land. It was 6.5 hectares in size and zero per cent contained as of 8 p.m.

Water-skimming aircraft are working on the fire, along with 13 firefighters and two helicopters.

No homes are threatened by the fire at the moment. Its exact cause is under investigation.

Several human-caused fires have started up in British Columbia in the past week.
