Suspected cell phone thief caught for shoplifting

REGINA – Police have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a cell phone theft that was caught on security camera yesterday morning.

A very daring thief made off with $20,000 worth of cell phones from a Bell kiosk in the Victoria Square Mall at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, but his face was caught on camera.

The business owner turned the video over to police, who did identify a viable suspect.

Then, at 9 a.m. Thursday police were dispatched to a grocery store in the Victoria Square Mall for a shoplifting report. A 29-year-old man was arrested for attempting to steal merchandise and fleeing the store.

Further investigation linked the suspect to the cell phone theft.

Devon James McCabe, 29, is charged with break and enter and commit theft. He’ll be in court Friday.
