SASKATOON – An exciting new art gallery opened Monday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Market Mall in Saskatoon. The mandate – to showcase some young artists.

Mayor Don Atchison cut the ribbon to unveil the brand new Children’s Playland Art Gallery.

The dedicated children’s space was renovated and expanded. Local artist Monique Martin says it adds a new spirit to the space.

“Children are playing around art that they’ve created. I think that’s a really neat energy,” said Monique Martin, gallery coordinator.

Anthony Haubrich says he’s proud to have his work on display here from his art class.

“I’m not usually good at art so this is kind of a new feeling for me,” said Anthony Haubrich, student at George Vanier Catholic Fine Arts School.

Schools are booked to display art until the fall of 2016.

Martin says it’s not just about the exhibition.

“When I went in to talk to the students I talked about being an artist and that’s my career and this is just a small step in a career that’s possible for you. So there’s all kinds of learning,” said Martin.

Currently, the gallery is showcasing George Vanier student artwork and will switch to another school at the end of June.
