CALGARY – The Alberta Medical Association has launched a new online forum specifically for patients. Albertapatients.ca asks all visitors to register for a free account before continuing on to join discussion forums, sign up for newsletters or participate in surveys.

In his weekly letter to AMA members, president Dr. Richard Johnston explained the website is intended to create discussion.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

“This is a great opportunity for the AMA, because when we know what matters to our patients, we can have meaningful conversations, share the information and play an active role in creating a patient and family-centered healthcare system.”

The website will focus on different themes throughout the year. For the launch, topics related to aging, seniors care and the experience of being a caregiver will be featured.

“We chose these themes because we thought they would be personally relevant in some way for many potential users,” writes Johnston. “This is not a platform for the AMA to push our own agenda. It’s really about listening to what patients want to talk about.”
