Saskatchewan’s Mark McMorris claims Gold at X-Games

After being an underdog last year and placing second in the 2011 Winter X-games, Saskatchewan’s own Mark McMorris had lots of pressure on him this year to medal at the X-Games. 

McMorris did not disappoint winning the Gold Medal in the Men’s Big Air Snowboarding competition last night. 

McMorris spent his weekends at the local ski hill in Fort Qu’Appelle and this allowed him to hone his skills and his love for the sport.

“I rode at mission ridge a lot when I was young, just trying to progress my snowboarding. I just loved it, going out there every weekend when I wasn’t playing hockey,” McMorris said sitting in his hotel room in Aspen, Colorado.  

McMorris won the gold medal with a massive backside triple cork mute 1440, McMorris scored 49 out of a possible 50 points for the trick.
McMorris will be competing for another Gold medal tonight in the men’s snowboard slopestyle final.
