WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg man who works for a youth organization is facing child pornography charges.
Police say in February the 37-year-old Winnipeg man “inadvertently” texted a picture of a nude 7-8 year old girl to a colleague from his work phone. The recipient immediately told his boss, who called police. The suspect was arrested Tuesday.
“He claims that the image was not intended to be sent to this co-worker,” Winnipeg police Cst. Jason Michalyshen said Wednesday. “The image appears to have been obtained through the internet,” he said. The identity of the girl isn’t yet known, though police say she had no connection to the “youth support organization” where the suspect worked.
Police have seized other electronic devices from the suspect and are checking for other examples of child abuse imagery.
The suspect’s identity and the name of the youth organization were not revealed. The man was fired. He is facing the following charges:
Possession of Child Pornography
Imports, Distributes, Sells or Possesses for the Purpose of Distribution or Sale any Child Pornography
Access any Child Pornography
He was released from custody pending a future court appearance.
