Two deadly motorcycle collisions on Alberta Highways
CALGARY – There were two separate deadly collisions involving motorcyclists Saturday afternoon.
RCMP were called to a serious motorcycle crash northwest of Lethbridge, this one on highway 23 by highway 519.
Mounties confirmed a person riding a motorcycle died after colliding with a pickup truck.
They say the bike was headed north on highway 23 and turning left at the intersection while the pickup was head south.
A semi-truck was also making a turn at the intersection but it’s not yet clear what, if any role, the semi played in the crash.
No word yet if anybody else was injured.
Earlier Saturday, EMS and RCMP from Strathmore were called to the scene of a another deadly collision involving a motorcycle and car on Highway 21 near township road 272, just after 1:30 p.m.
A man in his 50’s, who was driving the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
EMS says there were three people total involved in the crash, two from the car and one on the motorcycle.
The driver and passenger from the car, both women in their late 80s, were taken in stable condition to Strathmore Hospital by ground ambulance.
STARS Air Ambulance attended the scene and provided support to the ground EMS crews, but no patients were ultimately flown to hospital by the helicopter.
RCMP continue to investigate what caused the collision.
