CALGARY – Seniors Week in Calgary kicked off on Monday, with more than two dozen events planned as a way to celebrate the contributions seniors make to the community.

“They really do make a huge difference in the quality of life we enjoy here in Calgary,” said John Mungham, social worker, City of Calgary Senior Services in a release. “They make up a large portion of our volunteer community and voter turnout, and really, have their hands in all aspects of what makes Calgary great – they help keep our parks beautiful, they help support vulnerable people through community support programs, they’re involved in arts and culture – you name it and seniors are probably involved.”

You can share your Seniors’ Week photos and stories using the hashtag #yycseniors on Twitter and on the city’s Facebook Event page.

Some events running from June 1 to 7 are only for seniors; others are for the whole family.
