TORONTO — “Call me Caitlyn.”
With those three words, emblazoned on the cover of the July issue of Vanity Fair, social media went into overdrive.
Within two hours of her first post on the newly created @Caitlyn_Jenner account, Jenner had more than 640,000 followers and the hashtag #CallMeCaitlyn was trending.
People from all walks of life shared their reactions to Jenner’s appearance in a white bustier corset on the magazine cover.

Late Monday afternoon, U.S. president Barack Obama commented on Twitter.
Words like “gorgeous” and “inspiring” dominated the tweets.

Among the first to offer their love and support were Jenner’s daughter Kendall Jenner and former stepdaughters Kim Kardashian West and Khloé Kardashian.
Celebrities also weighed in on Twitter.
Canadian stylist Brad Goreski praised Jenner’s appearance on the Vanity Fair cover. “You are GORGEOUS!!,” he tweeted.
Ellen De Generes tweeted: “My hope for the world is that we can all be as brave as @Caitlyn_Jenner.”
“She moves me so,” tweeted Rosie O’Donnell.
Transgender author and MSNBC host Janet Mock joked that Jenner’s decision to spell her first name with a “C” is “the ultimate form of shade” directed at the Kardashians.
Mock also wondered: “Why are people so basic and still saying Bruce & he? The cover line LITERALLY says, ‘Call me Cailtyn.’ (sic) #usehername #CallMeCaitlyn”
