CALGARY-About 300 brave women donned costumes in a test of their strength, endurance and agility Saturday.
Calgary’s inaugural Woman2Warrior charity obstacle adventure race took off from SAIT campus around 10 a.m.
Teams of women, many in costume, ran through the five-kilometre course, which includes 10 obstacles such as a wall climbs, webs of rope and a daunting cold water army crawl.
The Calgary Fire Department was also on scene with 15 Crossfield firefighters lending their support and also looking to recruit some of the strongest participants.
“One of the things that we’re trying to do is attract more women to the department and an event like this is a great opportunity to meet women who are interested in a healthy lifestyle and are fit and strong and might make spectacular recruits to the Calgary Fire Department,” said Recruiting Officer Sean Hoy.
The event is organized by Easter Seals Alberta and supports kids with disabilities and special needs. Proceeds are also going to the Children’s Hospital Aid Society.
Organizers say the event is already a success with over $160,000 raised over overall – $60,000 more than they had anticipated.
